August 28th - Sept 4th 2006

There has always been a close association between the cacophony society and that jaunt in the country we call burningman.

Quick summary: A city devoted to alternative expression - constructed, executed and obliterated within one 7 day period each year. Eye candy, ear candy, mind candy and tactile candy for the left of center crowd. Art installations, music, performance, experience, costumes and most importantly - interaction. Two rules at BM - No spectators and Leave no Trace - Can you play by those rules?

The best thing I ever bought for burningman was a package of : TRAVELJOHNS
    - they are unisex liquid (read pee and vomit)containers with a space age coagulent in them.Thats RIGHT! turns your liquid into a solid. NO mess, easy to use and affordable. You can find them at Kmart and PepBoys.

VEHICLE-LESS TRAVEL TO BLACK ROCK CITY
So you've decided you want to go to Burning Man, but you don't have a
playa-appropriate vehicle -- or perhaps ANY vehicle -- or you're
flying in from far away. What's a prospective Burner to do?
Do not despair, you've got several options:

    (1) Rideshare:our lovely rideshare page/form on this site and one on the central bm site.

    (2) Green Tortoise: Our Gerlach/Empire shuttle partner, the Green
Tortoise, offers two buses from San Francisco, leaving Tues or wens,
and returning late Sunday night after the Temple burn. Tortoise
passengers have access to a large central camping location, food, and
drinking water. You can bring your bike for a small additional fee.
Contact the Green Tortoise or call 1-800-TORTOISE. Plan ahead, as buses do typically sell out.

    (3) Reno-to-Playa rideshare
The Black Rock Burner Hostel is changing to deal with the neighbors. The rideshare will evolve and will most likley use key points in Reno instead of the residential home in Sparks.

Happy trails, and see you on the playa!

    • WEEKLY SPIN JAMS - Summer months only

    • Confluence Park - Platte & 15th at the base of the REI

      - spin jammers playing with zuni poi and fire poi. Dusk (or 7pm) until? watch, learn, practice or just enjoy.

    • How to host a Burner event

officially sanctioned events should be a celebration of our community values and our accomplishments, rather than simply "parties."

The word "party," just doesn't seem to capture
what we love most about these gatherings. It is that they are inspiring"gatherings" with lots of amazingly expressive and joyous people and art; wherer our minds are cumulatively blown wide open; and our values affirmed and celebrated
    .

This may mean that information exchange and
interpersonal communication are encouraged and supported (quiet areas, where conversations can take place or "think tanks" within the event. etc

There aren't many rules other then don't use the burningman title for your profit making party. Basically keep it open to everyone yet somehow make it safe for attendees to let it all hang out. Though you can't prepare for all the idiots in the world, some simple precautions can go a long way to create a protective barrier all definently appreciate.
